Treatment.

For the treatment it was 'Connor Fieldsend's' responsibility to do the treatment for the music video as we all had vital roles to play he did an excellent job producing this for us..

The beginning of the storyboard centres on the lead singer and the band (the band begin playing their instruments through the intro, mid-shot of the band) as the camera cross-cuts between the two other separate narratives consisting of a woman in one and a man in the other. The woman is shown to be sleeping with a dishevelled look (birds-eye mid-shot), and the camera cross-cuts to the man, who is in a hospital corridor on a gurney (the orderlies push the gurney through the hall, the man is clearly upset and in pain, shot from a dolly effect) as the pre-lyric sequence plays through. The hospital is a metaphor for the mans 'pain' of living a bad life.

        As the song actually begins (cross-cut to the band) the lead singer is shown in front of the microphone (lead singer begins singing from a mid-shot) and starts the song. As he is singing, the narratives switch to a phone falling off the hook in the same room as the sleeping woman, who is woken by it (camera cross-cuts to the woman jolting awake and has a confused facial expression) and gets up to look (camera cross-cuts to the woman walking drearily to the hanging phone, from a side-shot). The phone dropping off the hook and needing to be replaced is a metaphor for the woman's uneventful life and she yearns for a 'replacement' in life. The woman replaces the phone after listening to the other end of the line, where the lead singer is singing. Upon hearing the music from the phone (close-up of the woman's eyes widening and immediately starts smiling, pulling a sticker with the image of an upturned smile from her face, cross-cutted into a mid-shot), she puts the phone on the hook, which this time doesn't fall off. With the odd look of a smile but with a frown, the woman leaves her room and sets off down a road to an undisclosed location (a dolly shot follows the woman walking out with a frown and smiling, but remaining in an excited state). The lead singer is then shown singing for a few seconds (mid-shot, side-shot of the singer performing). 

         This then switches to the mans narrative (from a side shot). After hearing the singing, the man gets off of the gurney (brief side shot of the man suddenly getting up, smiles and jumps off the gurney, with a brief panning shot as he walks). The narrative switches back to the woman for a few seconds to show her frown disappearing (shown from 4 different shots. Mid-shot of her face, high angle of her hands feeling her eyebrows, extreme close-up of the fingers peeling off the stickers, then a high angle of the woman with a happy face), allowing her face to express a smile. The narrative cross-cuts to the band (mid-shot), then returns to the woman (she becomes excited and sticks her arms up in the air, high angle).
       Turning back to the mans narrative, he is walking through the hospital corridors (dolly shot follows him), notices a set of signs with 'sadness','devotion' and 'dancer' on them (he stops and stares for a second, from a mid-shot, then carries on walking), implying that he leaves his human emotions behind and heads for a better alternative. (Showing elated expressions from a long shot) The man walks out of the hospital and begins towards an undisclosed location. Cross-cuts to the lead singer (close up, shown from the side, the singer wraps his fingers around the microphone), then to one of the other band members (playing whatever instrument they have, shown from a mid-shot).
      Returning to the woman's narrative, where she stops outside a forest (the woman runs towards the forest, then stands still just outside, shown from a long shot), which then cross-cuts to a long-shot of the man, who has also entered the forest, from a different entrance (the man walks slowly, the camera follows him as though he is following the camera, sustained long-shot to establish the forest and the man looking around). The story then shows an unused gurney and then a hanging telephone/unused mobile etc to symbolise the abandonment of the average human life (?) (quick cross-cuts to the gurney and the phone).
     The man and the woman are then shown as they are about to enter (split-screen of both people to show that they're not actually next to each other, shown from a mid-shot) a large clearing (long shot of both people entering the clearing from a distance apart), as the narrative quickly changes to show empty streets (from a long-shot for both frames, to emphasise the emptiness) where no people are. (an establishing shot of) The clearing shows the band performing in the background and a large crowd of people who run towards the man and the woman (from a side shot run by a dolly or panning shot), who are shown (from a side shot) noticing each other for the first time. The singer is shown performing (mid-shot) again, with (a cross-cut mid-shot of) the man and the woman throwing their arms in the air and expressing excitement and an elated mood. We once again see the band performing (from a long shot) to imply that the video/song is almost over. The band (from a sustained long shot, no cross-cutting) performs until the end of the video, where just before the very end, the man, the woman and the crowd are shown all together (in either an establishing or a long shot). The video ends.

Pop Rock is a music genre which incorporates a catchy pop style and light soft lyrics, which is more of less a guitar based song, there is quite a few variations of the word 'Pop rock' going from a slow and mellow form of rock as apposed to authentic rock, the detractos of pop rock tend to say its slick and a commerical product.

The song we are researcing also as influences from new wave and synthpop, new wave is an ambiguous catagory of pop or rock, which was established in the 1970s to mid 1980's and came from ties of punk rock, it was classed as the same until it was identified as its own genre incorporating electronic, experimental music, mod subculture, disco and pop music. Common characteristics of new wave music, apart from its punk influences, it includes the use of synthesizers and electronic productions. Synthpop also known as electropop, or technopop is a genre of popular music that first became established in around the 1980s, in which the synthesizer is the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic art rock, disco and particularly the "Krautrock" of bands like Kraftwerk. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post-punk era as part of the new wave movement of the late-1970s to the mid-1980s.

Pop Rock audience is for all ages, it has a wide range of artists which sings in this style the most recent in 2010,  Maroon 5, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Demi Lovato and  Lawson, it also goes to Nickleback, matchbox twenty, Ashlee simpson, Christina Aguilera, Michelle Branch, Elton John, Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney and Wings, The Knack and Olivia Newton-John, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Stevie Nicks and Phil Collins. At the start of the decade, Queen, Bryan Adams, Tina Turner, Cher, Sheena Easton, Def Leppard, Roxette, Billy Ocean, George Michael, Phil Collins and Madonna, Shakira, Sixpence None the Richer, October Project, The Cranberries, No Doubt, Hanson, Everclear, 4 Non Blondes and Gin Blossoms and many more artists as you can tell it goes from Billy Ocean right through to Demi Lovato which is a wide spectrum which appeals to all ages.

 

THE KILLERS - HUMAN RESEARCH.

APPEARANCE; In our groups we have got certain things we have to research about our songs it includes, the background of the group, the appearance of the group, the positions they all play, the lyrics, location, research covers of which people have done of the song, the different points of views people have about the song and which way people take them, also the change of tune so like the ways they change there clips to go with there tune difference.

We chose to do a few seperate ones ourselves so we didnt waste time doing them all so we are going to bring are work together and make a overall large background info biography of The Killers, i chose to do the appearance of the killers so we had a rough idea of how we need are actors to look in are video and what not to make them look like.

The Killers Appearnce on a whole; they all are relatively thin with a smart casual look all well kept and dont look like your typical band/group because they are slightly older then most bands and not that great looking compared to some of the more recent upcoming groups/bands which are young, energetic and very casual looking.

Brandon Richard Flowers = always wearing a jacket/blazer, all the images of brandon are of him looking very smart even when there on stage, he has quite a few trade marks he often wears slick, stylish, and sometimes abstract formalwear during concerts, hes very expressive with his hands and body movements during gigs, he also frequently jumps up and sings atop the stage speakers during live shows.

Ronnie Vannucci Jr = Ronnie also has trade marks he has a handlebar mustache,
 also enthusiastic/stylish arm movements and facial expressions while drumming in concert. Hes half italian and half german, he seems to be the most childish of the band due to the quote he said, 'My band mates are boring, they are kind of unable to get really drunk.'

Mark Stoermer = Mark is known for his very deep voice, hes also is the tallest and quietest member of the Killers, he is sometimes referred to as the band's "gentle giant". coming in at a whopping 6'5'' he has shoulder length hair with a short bearard, he has been compared to a picture of jesus, with the similar appearance of which they have, hes always in jeans may not be jean coloured but is always seen in jeans.

Dave Keuning = Daves known for his Long, shaggy hair, hes the second tallest in the band, he has a clean shaven face.

This is my first storyboard I drew out i started with drawing a women in a very short dress and fish nets to go with the song lyrics of the song,all my images i drew on my storyboards are lyric related and are of objects or people as opposed to the band playing, the song we chose was 'fluorescent adolenscence' by 'artic monkeys' i then went on to drawing a book which in the song is 'a little book of sex tips' i also drew fisnets, balckhole and a street labelled 'last laugh lane, i then went on to drawing a cocktail named bloody mary and a cuppa tea to show how the song portrays the relationship been exciting but now its just bland so its like a fun exciting cocktail which as turned in to a boring bland cup of tea.

 

In my second storyboard I started drawing a pair of legs with fishnets and holes in the knee's which is to go with the lyrics 'falling about' the then used a bit of my imagination and drew a man with a parachute to show him landing ' landing in a very common crisis, this was shown as land with crisis written on it, my second image on that storyboard is a girl and a boy the boy wearing a 'slag' t-shirt and the girl looking happy referring to 'oh that boys a slag the best you ever had' it then goes on to showing a man with a bust up manly face a nd boxing gloves to go with ' likes her gentlemen to not be gentle' the 6th picture relates to that line of lyrics as well because its a boxing ring to giv the sense hes not gentle, the 5th image i drew was a a bed with handcuffs on but all neet covers to relate to the lyrics.. started all the naughty nights with niceness.

On my last storyboard i drew i started of drawing a bingo sheet and a blobber which i did this because it goes with the lyrics 'was it a mecca dobber or a betting pencil' then a image of a speaker playing sounding it out  to go with the lyrics' you were just sounding it out' i then drew an house with the night sky because it was apt to the lyrics ' naughty nights' there is also a bottle of tobasco which was to go with 'that bloody mary's lacking the tobasco ' which related to the cocktail and the cup of tea earlier on in my drawings, then theres a big X and on top of the X it states 'youre not coming back again' the last is just some clouds to portray a persons vision of memory. which goes with the lyrics 'is just a memory and those dreams'.
